Our caring medical professionals will put your needs first. NMHSI physicians, nurse practitioners, and family practice residents work as a team to provide quality primary health care services. Whenever you need us, consider our clinics your patient-centered wellness home. Expanded evening hours are available for your convenience at most of our locations. Learn more about our medical services.

General preventive and restorative dental services are available at all our clinics. We accept most dental insurance, including Medicaid, and have a sliding fee scale for patients who have inadequate insurance coverage. Pregnant women, veterans, and infants get special access to our dental services. (Did you know your child should have a dental visit by age 1?) Our dentists, hygienists, and U of M dental student interns are kind and knowledgeable. Learn more about our dental services.

Behavioral Health

We have licensed master social workers at several locations. Our mental health professionals provide individual therapy and also team up with our medical care teams to help people with chronic diseases manage their illness most effectively. Your mental health deserves as much attention as your physical health. Whether you're stressed or living with a mental illness, we can help. Learn more about our behavioral health services.

Northwest Michigan Health Services offers Spanish interpreters at several locations to help patients whose preferred or first language is not English. Need us to translate part of your paperwork? We have you covered. In specific circumstances, we can even send an interpreter with you to specialist appointments that occur outside our clinics. Learn more about our translation and interpretation services.

Community Resource Connection

Our Community Health Workers provide assistance to you and your family helping you to overcome barriers in accessing services and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Northwest Michigan Health Services recognizes that it’s important to treat the whole person and part of staying healthy means having access to services outside of our clinics. Community Health Workers can assist you with transportation, insurance enrollment, education and applying for assistance from community resources. Learn more about how our Community Health Workers can connect you.

Sliding Fee Program

We are a federally qualified healthcare facility that is able to provide healthcare services at a reduced cost to those who cannot afford it. All of our medical and dental services are available on a sliding fee scale to ensure fair and affordable access for everyone. We frequently evaluate this scale to ensure proper healthcare is always within reach to those who need it. Take care of yourself, you deserve it! Learn more about our flexible payment options.

If you are prescribed medication, we are happy to electronically send your prescriptions to be filled at your pharmacy of choice, like the one you always drive past on your way home. For patients who don't have insurance, we keep a set supply of common medications for chronic diseases so nobody goes without the help they need. Learn more about our pharmacy services.

A message from our CEO:

We at NMHSI want to assure our patients and public that we are here for you. We are responding to rapidly-evolving recommendations regarding COVID-19 to assure the safety of our healthcare staff and community. We remain open and available to serve medical and behavioral health patients. We are pre-screening patients who present with fevers and cough, and triaging them out of our clinics for the most appropriate testing and follow-up. Responding to the recommendations of the Michigan Dental Association, we are now able to provide preventive dental services again, and are scheduling our existing patients whose appointments were cancelled previously. As always our medical, dental and behavioral health staff are available to our patients in our clinics and by phone at (231) 947-0351.

NMHSI is doing drive-through COVID testing at the Traverse City Clinic, 10767 E. Traverse Hwy. and at the Shelby Clinic at 119 S. State Street in partnership with Benzie-Leelanau Health Department and District Health Department #10. Anyone interested in being tested can call our COVID Test Hotline at 231-642-5292 for an appointment.

To support our patients and community who are suffering from increased anxiety and depression during COVID, we have a COVID Stress Warm Line. Call 231-655-3867 to speak to a counselor 8-4 M-F.

We will continue to post updates on Facebook and communicate changes to our patients through text, email, patient portal and phone contact.

Visit our COVID-19 page for more information.
